Edwin M. Knowles graduated from Harvard, took over a struggling pottery supply company in 1890, and spent the next seven decades building one of the most respected names in American semi-vitreous dinnerware — closing in 1963 only because the market flooded with cheaper imported goods he refused to match in quality.

Blossom Time, introduced around 1947, is everything that philosophy looks like on a plate: white, pink, and yellow flowers of varying sizes scattered over cream ceramic, with taupe and silvery leaves on thin branches, finished with a gold rim. It's a pattern that mixes easily with pink depression glass and looks equally at home at a spring brunch or a summer buffet. Slight wear on one area of the gold rim and a faint dark mark off-center are photographed and priced accordingly.
