Joyce C. Hall left Nebraska for Kansas City at 18 with two shoeboxes of postcards and started a business there in 1910. His brothers Rollie and William joined him, and the company became Hall Brothers. In 1928 it adopted the Hallmark name, after the hallmark symbol London goldsmiths had used since the 14th century, and began printing it on the back of every card. The company officially became Hallmark Cards in 1954. Over the years Hallmark expanded into gift wrap, Christmas ornaments, collectibles, and home decor. This bowl comes from that seasonal home decor side of the business, marked HMK on the bottom and made in China.
