A charming accent for a desk, shelf, or windowsill where the light can catch it — and with its substantial weight, equally at home doing double duty as a paperweight. A lovely gift for the hummingbird lover or vintage Lucite collector.
This piece is unmarked — Princeton Gallery originally identified its work with paper labels and stickers, which are frequently lost over time, as is the case here. It has the deep, hollowed-out look traditionally associated with hand-carved Lucite pieces from the 1940s and '50s, and was in fact marketed as "hand carved and hand painted." In reality, it's well documented that these pieces were shaped using a machine pantograph method and then finished by hand-painting artisans — a detail that doesn't diminish the craftsmanship, but is worth knowing for collectors. This is high-quality vintage Lucite, with the distinct heavy density that separates it from later, lighter-weight acrylic reproductions.
