Before the salt shaker, there was the salt cellar — and before the individual cellar, there was the master salt, placed at the center of the table for all to share. This is one of those: a hexagonal molded blown glass bowl on a pedestal foot, thick and heavy in the hand, with the tiny bubbles still visible inside the glass that confirm it was made before machine precision erased such things. The look is quiet and architectural. Maker unknown — over a thousand salt cellar designs exist in the collector's record, and new ones are still turning up.
A spoon is included, though not original, nor antique. Use it for salt, for fleur de sel at a dinner party, for a small jewel on a vanity, or simply as a beautiful object on a shelf.
A lovely find for a salt cellar collector, an American pressed glass enthusiast, or anyone drawn to the honest beauty of early glasswork.
