Two generous pink peonies, one delicate bud, gold rimming, and a scatter of red Japanese characters — this little tokkuri is a genuinely lovely piece of Japanese porcelain, and it pours sake beautifully.
This vintage sake decanter was a promotional item issued by Suntory when you purchased their Chiyoda Sake in the 1970s. The pink peonies and red kanji characters on the decanter mirror those on the original Chiyoda Sake label — a charming piece of Japanese beverage marketing history that has aged into a genuinely beautiful decorative object. At 5.75 inches tall it's the perfect size for a single serving of warm sake, an accent piece on an Asian-inspired bar or table, or a small but meaningful hostess gift.
In excellent condition — no chips, cracks, or scratches of any kind.
The Peony holds a place of great honor in Japanese culture, known as the "King of Flowers." It symbolizes good fortune, bravery, and honor — making this a particularly auspicious gift. The peony is also the traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the flower of the 12th wedding anniversary, universally associated with romance, prosperity, and a happy life.
Suntory was founded in Osaka, Japan in 1899 by Shinjiro Torii, originally as a wine importer before pivoting to whisky production in 1923. Today Suntory is one of the world's largest and most respected spirits companies, producing iconic Japanese whiskies including Yamazaki, Hibiki, and Toki, as well as sake, beer, and soft drinks.
