Susan Beatrice Pearse was one of Britain's most beloved illustrators of children's books and decorative prints — best known for the Ameliaranne series of children's books, she also contributed to Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopedia, illustrated greeting cards and postcards, and created an advertising campaign for Start-rite shoes. She studied at the New Cross Art School and the Royal College of Art in London, and lived from 1878 to 1980, just short of her 102nd birthday. Her Childhood Fairytale Prints series, published by Edward Gross Co. in the 1920s, is actively collected today as a rare example of early 20th-century American decorative print publishing at its most charming.
