A boy. A dog. A cloud of pink and blue bubbles. Constanza saw childhood the way it actually feels from the inside.
This is a vintage Constanza print — a boy in gingham overalls sitting on the floor blowing bubbles, his loyal dog companion at his side, the bubbles encircling the whole scene in pink and blue. Artist-signed "Constanza." Framed and published by Sandgaard, Denmark. Circa 1950s–1970s. One available. Ready to hang.
Constanza is a pseudonym — the actual artist's identity was never publicly disclosed, as was common practice for commercial illustrators producing mass-market work in the mid-century era. What is known is that Constanza's work became one of the most beloved expressions of the "Big Eyes" aesthetic that Margaret Keane popularized: children with large, luminous eyes, round cheeks, and big heads, rendered with a warmth and innocence that made their pieces irresistible as nursery and children's room decor. Today Constanza prints are actively collected by lovers of vintage kitsch and mid-century childhood nostalgia — and pieces in their original frames are increasingly difficult to find.
This one is framed in a lightweight plastic frame with a clear acrylic protective sheet rather than glass — likely a deliberate safety choice for children's rooms. The Sandgaard Denmark sticker is intact on the reverse with a metal hanging hook. Acrylic cover has light scratching visible in raking light only; the print itself is in very good condition with no yellowing.
A wonderful piece for a Constanza collector, a lover of mid-century kitsch and Big Eyes art, a nursery decorator, or anyone who grew up with a print like this and wants it back on their wall.
