A turkey, ducks in flight, falling leaves, and a gilded greeting — posted with a one-cent stamp, and saved for over a century.
Between 1900 and 1915, Germany was the world's finest printer of illustrated postcards — embossed, gilded, lithographed with a richness that American and British presses couldn't match. These Thanksgiving postcards are survivors of that golden age: small, vivid, tactile objects that were mailed with one-cent stamps and kept for decades. Each is an original, not a reproduction. This card was copyrighted by H. Wessler (#684) — a German-born publisher who worked in New York — and features a fine embossed turkey with ducks in flight on the right and fall leaves upper left, gilded border and lettering. Posted, with a one-cent US stamp, pencil writing on the reverse. Small stains on the border, all photographed.
