Like most airlines, British Airways offered decks like this to passengers as in-flight entertainment until rising costs and 1978 deregulation ended the tradition, turning surviving decks into collectibles. Founded in 1939 by merging Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd, the state-owned BOAC operated overseas through WWII. Following several postwar restructuring shifts among regional state airlines, a 1971 legislative act officially merged BOAC and BEA in 1974 to create today's British Airways.
