Cosmopolitan's Mayfair pattern centers a generous bouquet of large pink roses, a white rose, and smaller purple, violet, and yellow blooms on a soft cream ground, all encircled by a 22K gold filigree border, and is backstamped Cosmopolitan Dinnerware, 22K. Gold, Mayfair, U.S.A.  We were unable to find any information on a ceramics manufacturer with the name 'Cosmopolitan'... this line has been attributed to Edwin Knowles and Homer Laughing.  Knowledgeable antique dealers contend the physical shape, weight, and ivory glaze formula of Cosmopolitan pieces are equal to the blanks used by major Ohio River Valley potteries (most notably Edwin Knowles) during the 1940s and 1950s.  The exact floral decals and 22Kt gold lace filigree styles used on Cosmopolitan pieces were also licensed and used on explicitly marked Knowles and Homer Laughlin lines from that exact same era.
