The Red Lion mark on the base — a lion atop a box reading "Made in Bavaria" — is rare enough that even specialists disagree about its origin. It has been tentatively linked to Lehmann Arzberg, though not confirmed. What is certain is that this is Bavarian porcelain of the 1930s or 40s at its most accomplished: a center composition of white, yellow, and pink roses; an iridescent border in light green and warm beige with white flowers; scrolled gold detailing along the rim and foot. The mark alone makes it worth finding.
Serve cake from it, fruit, or nothing at all — it's equally beautiful displayed. At 9½ inches handle to handle, it's a proper serving size.
