Some designs transcend their era entirely. This Wedgwood Blue Jasperware cabinet plate, dated 2002 and made in England, continues a tradition that began in 1774 — and it shows no signs of aging.
At the center is Amphitrite, goddess-queen of the sea, wife of Poseidon, she rides a shell chariot led by dolphins — the female personification of the sea rendered in crisp white relief against the most coveted of all Jasperware colorways. The border has grape leaves, rosettes, and bows. The year 2002 is embossed at the center. Stamped on the back: "Wedgwood, Made in England."
A cabinet plate in the truest sense — made to be displayed on a mantel, shelf, or curio, and admired.
