  • Pattern: Vintage Baby Nursery Planter, Musical Jack in the Box, Napco
  • Made in China
  • Vintage: 1970's - 1980's
  • Details - This is a rare baby nursery planter, we have never seen this exact design with the Jester / Jack in the Box anywhere, it is actually a musical planter.  The colors, while still "babyish", are bright and colorful:  pink, blue, yellow, purple, black and some brown on the teddy bear.  Wind up the Jester's head and it softly goes round and round, while "Rock a Bye Baby" plays.  Adding to the color and brightness, are embossed yellow stars and color dots in pink and purple, all around the piece.  Finished with a high shine glaze, great details, really well done. The bottom is stamped: "Napco" it also retains its original sticker that says "Napco Made in China".  These planters make wonderful gifts for new mom's filled with a plant or baby items, great decoration for baby showers or in a baby's nursery.
  • Material:  Ceramic
  • Dimensions:  5.25 inches Tall.  When the Jester is right side up, it extends to 5.75 inches Tall.  It is 5.25 inches Wide and 4.25 inches Deep, again, the Jester's head extends out a bit so it makes it 5.0 inches Deep.
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Very Good Condition.  There are no chips, cracks or scratches, however there is a little bit of crazing on the clown's face.  There are some factory flaws: one of the clown's eyes, the paint has run a bit, also paint issues on a few of the little dots, and two dots in back are missing color.  All very minor and these planters are not high quality pottery so overall, very good condition. The music box is in perfect condition, plays very well.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  All sales final.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.
National Potteries Corporation, (Napco), was founded in Bedford, Ohio, in 1938 by Irwin Garber, David Rein and Mr. Payner.  They originally produced their own porcelain and glass but after World War II, Napco started importing collectible ceramic novelty items from Japan.  Those items so loved and collected today included: ceramic planters, decorative glass, novelty figurines and their ever famous Head Vases.  This helped Napco grow very fast in the 50's and 60's.  However, during the 1960's Napco faced hard competition from Lefton, Enesco, as well as from one of their own.  Irwin Garber, left Napco to start International Art Ware Corp (Inarco), which also imported glass and ceramics from Japan, including the head vases that had been so popular for Napco.  Like most importers at the time, due to competition, Napco started importing from China as well.  In 1986, Napco purchased Inarco and moved the company headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida where they remain today. With over 70 years of industry history as a prolific distributor during the 20th century, they continue into the 21st century providing exclusively designed products with exceptional quality.
