A mustachioed Colonial Man with a tricorn hat — hand-painted in Japan and full of personality.
The Toby Jug tradition goes back centuries in English pottery, but Japan embraced it enthusiastically in the mid-20th century with bold hand-painting, cheerful character faces, and a creamer-sized form that fits neatly in the hand. This one — a colonial man with a prominent mustache and tricorn hat — is a fine example of the type. Two are available in very similar condition; note individual variations described below.
