Whitman Publishing began in 1916 as a subsidiary of the Western Printing & Lithographing Company of Racine, Wisconsin, after Western took over the assets of a bankrupt Chicago children's book publisher. It grew into one of the most prolific children's publishers of the 20th century, producing books, puzzles, and games for generations of American children. Published in 1978 under Mattel's license, this Fashion Photo edition pairs Barbie with her friend PJ across uncut paper fashions. It's held up beautifully over the decades, with only the faintest bend to one upper corner — nothing that touches the dolls or their clothing.
