This real photo postcard was taken from the heights of the Hirschberg-Alm looking out over the village of Pähl, in the Pfaffenwinkel region of Upper Bavaria near the Ammersee and Starnberger See. The high peaks in the background are identified on the card as the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges, the latter home to the Zugspitze, Germany's tallest peak. The card was published by Verlag "Südbild," Alex. Bergmoser of Munich, and printed on Perutz photographic film stock, a well-known German film brand of the postwar era.

A charming addition to a collection of Bavarian or Alpine travel postcards, or framed alongside other mid-century European scenic views.

The card was mailed via airmail on July 21, 1958, addressed to Lynchburg, Virginia, and bears a warm handwritten note from a traveler named Linda, who wrote that she was staying near Munich, had visited castles and age-old churches, and was "having a wonderful time."
