Lauscha, Germany is considered the birthplace of glass Christmas ornaments, dating back to Protestant glassblowers who settled there in the 1590s. By the 1880s, F.W. Woolworth was importing Lauscha glass to the U.S., and at one point nearly all American tree glass traced back to this single town. This antique house ornament still carries its pontil mark on the base, a clear sign of authentic hand-blown age.
Best displayed rather than hung given its age and condition — a lovely shelf or curio piece, or a meaningful addition to a collector's case.
