"The Grand Old Park" arches across the top, with filigree flowers running down both sides. The blue, perforated 5¢ Yellowstone stamp is mounted on black and shows Old Faithful in eruption. The "Yellowstone National Park, Issued 1934" banner hangs below on its own small links, and a gold cord loop is attached for hanging. The back carries a small-type write-up on Yellowstone and Old Faithful. It arrives in its original clear-window box, labeled "U.S. Postage Stamp, Commemorative Ornament," with a "Genuine 24K Gold Finish Brass" sticker.
A natural gift for national park lovers, stamp collectors, and anyone who has waited on a bench for the geyser. It looks right on a Christmas tree, in a shadow box, or on a desk.
1934 was declared National Parks Year. Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes suggested putting the parks on postage stamps, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, an avid stamp collector, approved ten designs, one for each denomination from 1¢ to 10¢. The 5¢ Yellowstone issue showed Old Faithful and came out July 30, 1934, with about 31 million printed. It honored the country's first national park, established by Congress in 1872. This ornament mounts a real stamp from that series in a gold-finished keepsake you can hang or display.
