A violin resting on sheet music, gold and green leaves in the background, four brass feet, the smell of Italian craftsmanship — and when you wind the key, Santa Lucia.
Made by hand in Sorrento, Italy — the hillside city above Naples renowned for its intarsia woodwork — this music box is inlaid in natural wood tones with a warm finish and four small brass feet. The 18-note Sankyo musical movement (Japan's finest music box manufacturer) plays "Santa Lucia," the beloved mid-19th century Neapolitan song about the picturesque waterfront district of the same name in the Gulf of Naples. These boxes sell new for $150 to $180; this one is pre-loved with character — a small chip on one corner, a couple of light scratches on the front, and some wear on the brass legs, all noted and photographed.
A beautiful piece for a side table, a desk, a Sorrento collector, or anyone who loves Italy and appreciates handmade objects with a song inside.
