Black circles interlace with gray loops across bone-white porcelain — graphic, modern, and utterly of its moment. The Basonge pattern is Narumi at their most daring.

  • Material: Bone china
  • Dimensions: 6.5" diameter
  • Era: Vintage, 1974–1978
  • Origin: Japan

Striking enough to use as a catch-all, float a candle in, or simply display. A remarkable gift for the Narumi or Mikasa collector, the modernist tableware enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates a piece of design history still in its original wrapping.

Produced from 1974 and discontinued just four years later in 1978, Basonge had one of the shortest runs in Narumi's catalog — which is precisely why it is so rarely found, and why this set of two, still in their original packaging and never used, is such a genuine find. Distributed in the United States by Mikasa, these larger soup bowls complement the smaller fruit/dessert bowls also available in the shop. Narumi, founded in 1911, was the first Japanese manufacturer to successfully mass-produce and export bone china to the US, prized for its density, luster, and extraordinary translucency when backlit.

Set of 2. Hand wash recommended. We carry the matching Narumi Basonge fruit/dessert bowls in the shop — browse to complete the set.
