It is solid brass, not plated, with a wonderful sword shape and a very detailed pineapple on top. This is not the newer "flat" pineapple letter openers, this is very heavy, solid brass and the pineapple is rounded with lots of nice details. The wear on the brass gives it a really nice vintage look you can't get from a new piece. Great accent in the office, the kitchen, anywhere you open mail. Very nice gift for Mother's Day when paired with pretty stationary.
