The design was considered distinctive enough to be federally patented (marked "Reg. U.S. Patent Off.") — a testament to the quality of the artwork. A blank blue square on the label indicates where the specific produce variety would have been overprinted — meaning this example was never put into use, making it a true New Old Stock find.
