Six Libbey glasses from Seattle's Pallino Pastaria, each divided by a white band that sorts the optimists (Ottimista) from the pessimists (Pessimista). A little Italian wit for the bar cart.

Each glass carries the ornate Pallino Pastaria logo near the rim, with "Ottimista" above a bold white line and "Pessimista" below it, a playful take on whether your glass is half full or half empty. The tapered glasses sit on a nice thick base and are marked with Libbey's "L" on the bottom. They are discontinued, and the small size suits juice, a neat pour, or a large shot.
Pour to the line and let your guests decide which side of it they're on. They make a unique gift for Italian food lovers, Seattle-area natives, or anyone who enjoys a good half-full, half-empty joke.
Pallino Pastaria was founded in Seattle in 1999 by retail pioneer and former Starbucks executive Harry "Arrigo" Roberts, who wanted to bring the warmth of Italian family gatherings to a fast, affordable setting. Its pasta-cooked-to-order concept spread across the Seattle area, from downtown office towers to University Village and Bellevue Square. All of those locations have since closed, and today only the flagship location at Sea-Tac Airport remains open. Promotional glassware like this carried the restaurant's personality home with guests, and it was made by Libbey, the Toledo, Ohio glassmaker whose roots go back to 1818 and whose drinkware has long been a fixture in American homes, bars and restaurants.
