This Bordallo Pinheiro Majolica Hen in Nest is one of the finest examples of Portugal pottery (aka Chicken in Basket).  The lid — the hen herself — lifts off to reveal the woven nest bowl beneath, perfect for candies, jewelry, small treasures, or displayed in your kitchen or country style home.  The colors are earthy browns, black and reddish rust for the crest. This is a tall one, at almost 7.0 inches Tall.  While this piece is not marked "Bordallo Pinheiro", we learned after the 1980's they would be simply marked with the mold #, the "Made in Portugal" impression, and have a paper label with the Bordallo name and frog logo, this one no longer retains the label.

How to Use:  This lovely hen would be at home in so many places, it's hard to list them all.  As a gift for a Majolica collector, Portugal ceramics collector or Hen in Basket collector. As decor just about anywhere, but primarily as kitchen decor.  Also in a farmhouse, cottagecore or country inspired home.  Great for storing small items.

Bordallo Pinheiro was founded in 1884 by artist Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro, it is a Portuguese pottery of exceptional works.   Rafael has won many international exhibition awards for his beautiful, naturalistic designs.  They are still in production today and releasing beautiful patterns.  They are known for their outstanding collection of Majolica.
