  • Details:   A wonderful fan, all hand painted with colorful Red Crowned Crane birds.  It is double-sided with birds on both sides and features a very intricate open-cut work on the wooden ribs. Both guards have painted cranes in brown.  We believe this is sandalwood, not only because of its light color, but it's very light in weight too.  Fans have been around since Roman times but these hand held - folding fans were introduced in the West during the 17th Century, and quickly became popular.  These were not only great for keeping cool, they also kept bugs and unworthy suitors away.  They became a fashion accessory, much like a brooch or bracelet, these were decorative pieces of art to be worn and shown.  Today we love them as home decor; whether framed and hung on the wall, opened on a base/stand on a tabletop, used as a backdrop for figurines or other knick-knacks, or several displayed together on a wall. These make great gifts for Valentines Day, Mother's day and outdoor summer get-togethers.

  • Dimensions:  Open - 15.0 inches Wide.  Closed - 9.0 inches Long
  • Condition: Vintage - Used.  Very Good Vintage Condition.  The satin tassel is fraying a bit.  There is no discoloration, cracks, broken ribs nor any other issues.   Please review pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.
