Hallmark Cards traces back to 1910, when 18-year-old Joyce C. Hall arrived in Kansas City, Missouri with little more than two shoeboxes of postcards, launching a mail-order postcard business from a rented room at the YMCA. His brother Rollie joined him soon after, and the two began printing their own cards in 1916. The company adopted the Hallmark name in 1928, and under J.C. Hall's leadership grew into the world's largest greeting card company — a family-owned business that remains headquartered in Kansas City today.
