Hutschenreuther has been making fine porcelain in Selb, Bavaria since 1814. The Dundee — this is the original Hutschenreuther version, not the later copy issued by Winterling — features large pink roses on all four sides, embossed swirls, a scalloped border, and a thick gold rim. The bulbous shape of this saucière is particularly lovely: rounded and generous, with a formality that suits a dressed table and a warmth that suits any occasion.
While the gravy boat is a more modern, utilitarian vessel built for the motion of pouring, the classical French saucière is an anchor of stationary elegance. It sits gracefully upon the table—a footed basin fused to its own protective tray—designed to be courted with a silver ladle. This saucière form — no handle, two pour spouts — sits on an attached underplate, making it fully self-contained. The double Hutschenreuther Selb LHS and Pasco (New York importer, 1915–1970) stamps date it to approximately 1962. We also carry matching dinnerware sets and serving pieces in The Dundee.
An exceptional companion piece for a Dundee collector, or a beautiful standalone addition to a table that appreciates fine German porcelain.
