This lidded ginger jar is decorated all around with hand-painted iris blooms and fluttering butterflies, each outlined in gold against a pale ground. The original foil sticker — "Made in Japan" — is still intact on the base. The form is classic temple jar, with a well-fitted lid and pleasing proportions, light and airy enough to feel season-appropriate from February through September.
