Camark Pottery — Camden Art Tile and Pottery Company — was founded in 1926 in Camden, Arkansas by Jack Carnes, John Lessell, Stephen Sebaugh, and the Camden Chamber of Commerce. Starting with only twelve designs and fifteen employees producing up to 500 pieces per day, Camark grew into one of Arkansas's most beloved potteries, known for its iridescent lusterware, Futuristic/Modernistic wares, and the use of locally sourced Camden clay. They survived the Great Depression and World War II, outlasting many of their contemporaries, before finally closing their doors in 1983 when longtime owner Mary Daniel passed away. Authentic early Camark pieces with impressed marks are increasingly sought after by American art pottery collectors.
