Napco — short for National Potteries Corporation — got its start in Bedford, Ohio, in 1938, founded by Irwin Garber, David Rein, and a Mr. Payner. The company began by producing its own porcelain and glass, but after World War II, it shifted toward importing collectible ceramic novelties from Japan, a move that would define its identity for decades. Napco became especially beloved for its Head Vases, now highly sought after by collectors. In 1986, the company acquired Inarco and relocated its headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida, where it remains in business today.
