  • Pattern:  Antique German Figurines Couple, Victorian Children, Unger Schneider, IG DEP 8357
  • Made in: Grafenthal Thuringia, Germany
  • Antique: 1879 - 1886
  • Details:  What a beautiful and rare treat it was to find this pair of German figurines in absolute pristine condition!!  We are in awe of the quality & detail on this hand painted pair.  The colors on these are soft pastels in peach, violet, and light yellow.  We believe these are children, the girl's gown has tiny raised gold dots, her shoes are painted gold and she has a very large hat with a feather, her face is sweet and beautifully painted.  The boy also has a sweet face, his pants have the same raised gold dots, his shoes are also painted gold and he has a matching violet feather on his hat.  The back of each piece is embossed with the number "8357", we believe this is the pattern number.  They are marked with the 'arrow and G' the well-known mark of Unger, Schneider & Co.  This mark helps us date these pieces to between 1879 and 1886, after 1886 a crown was added to the mark.  These will need a lot of packaging to arrive safely, please keep that in mind at check-out.  A most generous gift for a collector, and a great addition to your curio or bookshelf.  This item qualifies for Free Shipping.

Unger, Schneider & Co was started in 1859 by Carl Schneider, Karl Unger and businessman Hermann Hutschenreuther.  For some reason the name of Hutschenreuther did not appear on the company name until 1885.  Originally their mark looked very similar to the marks used by a factory in Gießhübel, so they introduced the first mark, an uncrowned 'G' mark with the double-headed arrow which was used from 1875 onwards.  In 1879 the mark was officially registered at the Ducal District Court and the letters 'Dep' were added to the mark. Unger remained a partner in Gräfenthal until Carl Schneider died in 1885.  In 1886 Carl Schneider's son, Paul, reorganized the company and eventually opened his own company the Hermann Hutschenreuther G.m.b.H. in Probstzella.  In honor of his father, Paul Schneider decided to name his business Carl Schneiders Erben and added the crowned and dated version of the company hallmark.
