This large owl is hand crafted, with outstanding workmanship: even the leaves on the tree trunk and each feather are wonderfully detailed. The Owls of America collection ran from 1988 to 1991, and this piece is from the final year.

Lenox began in 1889 in Trenton, New Jersey, as the Ceramic Art Company, founded by Walter Scott Lenox, and took the Lenox name in 1906. Best known for fine china, including the dinnerware chosen for the White House under President Woodrow Wilson in 1918, the company also made collectible figurines like this one, which brought its reputation for fine porcelain to a wider audience of collectors.
