  • Pattern: Persian Cat on Heart Shaped Pillow
  • Made in USA
  • Vintage:  1971
  • Details:  This is a wonderful likeness of a white Persian cat on a yellow tufted pillow.  It is unique, made by The Townsend Ceramics Inc.  As with all the Townsend pieces, this one is amazingly life-life.  All their pieces were made from a mold originally sculpted by Ann Townsend.  See below for a brief history of this company and artist.  This piece is hand painted with beautiful soft tones and the level of detail is just beautiful.  It is impressed with The Townsends 1971 copyright.  The bottom also has an ink mark: "MLhi", could be a mold number.  The bottom has cork disks to protect your furniture.  Some Townsend pieces have sold for $300 to over $800 at auction.  This is a heavy, large and fragile piece, it will need a large box and lots of packaging material.  Great as a gift for a cat lover or Townsend collector.  This item qualifies for Free Shipping.
  • Material:  Ceramic
  • Dimensions:  Approx. 8.25 inches Tall, 12.0 inches Long and 11.5 inches Wide

Townsend Ceramics & Glass Inc. was founded in 1969 in Titusville, FL.  Originally started as Alaska Arts in 1964 with artist Ann Townsend at the helm.  Ann Townsend was born in Alaska and was always creative.  She started selling hand-painted cup and saucer sets of fine china. She later went on to creating Alaskan jewelry, as well as designing and painting men's ties and eventually a well known artists of landscapes and portraits. Ann and her family moved to Florida and opened Townsend Ceramics & Glass in 1969 and this is where the now famous, and much sought after, animal figurines got their start.  Each animal starts as a sculpture, then a mold is made and from there the individual pieces which are all hand painted, are reproduced.  We found information stating Townsend Ceramics & Glass closed their doors on December 31, 2004, however, we also found Townsend Ceramic & Glass in Titusville, FL that is still open for business with a John Townsend and Ann Townsend as owners.  Could signal that Ann has retired from sculpting and the company continues, but that is speculation on our part.
