  • Details:  This demitasse set has a very beautiful and ornate chinoiserie pattern from Andrea by Sadek in the Imari Style.  This style has a tendency for over-decoration that leads to exaggerated busyness but it is extremely eye catching and the colors on this set is so bright and beautiful, they are hard to resist.  There is lots of significance and meaning within the decorations.  The pattern features lots of flowers that symbolize beginning, abundance and rejuvenation.  There are also pine trees and bamboo.  When pine, bamboo and plum blossom are seen together, as in this set, they signify a healthy and long lasting life.  The peony in the center of  the saucers is also known as the 'King of Flowers', and it's a symbol of good fortune.  If given as a gift, it would be fun to tell your recipient a little about the decorations.  These pieces are signed by the artist on the bottom, they have a gold rim and a gold accent on the handle.  Imari cups display beautifully, add them to you curio, or glass-front cabinet.  These cups will delight any user while sipping Espresso, Cuban, Greek or Turkish coffee.  They would make a great gift for an espresso lover or Chinoiserie collector!

Andrea by Sadek was founded in 1936 by Charles and Norman Sadek and it is still family owned.  It is also known as Charles Sadek Import Company and they are  headquartered in New Rochelle, New York.  Charles named the company Andrea in honor of his daughter, who is still involved in the design of their products.  After WWII Norman Sadek started trade with Japan an inspired Japanese factories to produce higher quality products.  You can still find, if rarely, Andrea by Sadek products in the market with the stamp “Occupied Japan”.   Sadek is a leader in the gift and tableware industry, they have beautiful porcelain products such as: flowers, birds and other figurines, as well as salt and pepper shakers, tea sets and tea accessories, lamps, dinnerware and much more.  Sadly in November, 2010, Norman  Sadek passed away.  Today his son Jim, along with his wife, and Norman's daughters Andrea and Lauren, all run the company.
