She captured movement the way few illustrators ever have — and this plate is proof. "August" is the third issue in the Calendar Collection by Sarah Stilwell Weber, produced by Newell Pottery with a firing limited to 100 days. Plate #6368A shows a young girl at the seaside, her hair and dress caught in a summer breeze, the ocean behind her alive with light and color.
The Saturday Evening Post once wrote that Weber was "particularly adept at creating movement and flow that gave the impression of coming and going" — and you feel it here immediately. The artist's signature appears in blue within the waves at the girl's feet. The collection was curated by Weber's daughter, Jane Weber Winston. Plate hanger included.
