At anywhere from 115 to 140 years old, this shallow porcelain bowl has outlasted the empire it was made in — and it is still utterly beautiful.
Produced by Moritz Zdekauer (M&Z) in Austria between 1884 and 1909, this is a piece that collectors recognize immediately: the mark, used only during those twenty-five years, places it firmly in the golden age of Austrian porcelain export. The design is deceptively simple — pink roses scattered across a white ground — but the embossed body, the deeply scalloped rim, and the swirling gold gilding at the border make it a genuine work of decorative art. Three very small chips on the underside of the rim are photographed; they are not visible from the front and do not diminish the presence of the piece.
A rare and meaningful gift for a serious collector of European antique porcelain, or for anyone who loves romantic, old-world elegance in their home.
