  • Pattern:  Antique Decorative Bowl, Austrian Porcelain Pink Roses, M. & Z.  Shallow Bowl (Discontinued)
  • Made in Austria
  • Antique: 1884 - 1909
  • Details:  An absolutely gorgeous decorative shallow bowl by the highly regarded porcelain factory, M. & Z. (formerly Moritz Zdekauer), Austria.  The design is simple, lots of gorgeous pink roses scattered all around the plate. But what really makes it an outstanding piece of decor is the embossing, the scalloped edges and swirls of gold gild all around the rim, it is truly a work of art!  The bowl is stamped on the back with the M. Z. logo used between 1884 and 1909.  In 1909 the company changed hands, the firm was bought by C.M. Hutschenreuther, but kept the MZ trademark because it was so well recognized. This company didn't name their patterns, they had a numbering system embossed on each piece used as a mould/style reference.  This is gorgeous shallow bowl, it is anywhere from 112 to 137 years old, a true treasure to own. There is a minor condition issue, please see below.
  • Material:  Porcelain

The M+Z Austria company was started in 1884 when Moritz Zdekauer Bank purchased it from Augustin Novotny, (who had owned the porcelain company in 1824) at an auction. In 1909 the firm was bought by C.M. Hutschenreuther but they kept the MZ mark because it was so well recognized. Since then they've been using the MZ Altrohlau mark. The Altrohlau Porcelain Factories operated till 1945, then it was nationalized. The company, becoming private again, (Starorolský porcelán Moritz Zdekauer, a. s.,) in 1992. Fast forward to 2013, Bohemia porcelán Moritz Zdekauer 1810 s.r.o purchased the trademark and all the assets and continued manufacturing. Today, they still operate in the Czech Republic under the name Starorolsky Porcelan Moritz Zdekauer in the town Stara Role. (Altrohlau, Austria is now known as Stara Role which is now in the Czech Republic).
