This Avon figural decanter is shaped as a blue marlin, distinguished from the similarly shaped swordfish by its long dorsal fin running all the way to the base of the tail. The design has since been discontinued.

Avon traces its roots to 1886, when David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company in New York, selling perfume door-to-door through a network of saleswomen. The company was renamed Avon in 1939, after Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. Figural and novelty bottles like this one became especially popular collectibles in the 1960s and '70s, prized today as much for their sculptural charm as for the fragrances they once held.
