Baer & Wilde began as the men's division of the Attleboro Manufacturing Company, founded in 1897 by German immigrants Maurice Baer and Samuel Stone. In 1918, Maurice's brother Lawrence invented the “Kum-A-Part” snap link, patented in 1923, giving dress shirts a more secure, easy-to-use closure. The company later merged with its distributors in 1936 to form what would become Swank, Inc.
