  • Pattern: Wheat 20595
  • Made in Japan
  • Vintage: 1949 - 1955
  • Details:  This is such a pretty set of creamer and sugar!  They are delicate and beautiful with gold wheat stalks and other gold accents.  The sugar bowl has a lid as well as two handles, a gorgeous "picket fence" cut rim and embossed body,  just beautiful!  The creamer has the same gold wheat stalks and a embossed body. These pieces are high quality porcelain, very translucent.  Based on the backstamp, we can date them to between 1949 and 1955.  The stamp reads: "Lefton China, Hand Painted, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." and has a the Lefton crown in blue and gold and pattern number "20595".  Lefton sold 3 slightly different Wheat patterns, the differences are minor but noticeable.  Pattern #20/83 (which we also carry), has lots more embossing (swirls) on the body, and 3 wheat stalks, also the rims are smoother, swirled.  This pattern, #20595, has only 2 wheat stalks, the rims are sharper, pointier, like a picket fence, and the handles are very ornate.  Pattern 2153 is the least ornate, sleaker, more plain, some would say, more modern.  They are all beautiful, just depends on your taste.  This listing is for pattern 20595, the most ornate of all, and is in great condition.  Perfect as a hostess gift, a bridal shower gift or for your own enjoyment!

Lefton (actually called Geo. Zoltan Lefton Company) was started in Chicago in 1941 by George Lefton, an immigrant from Hungary who's hobby was collecting fine porcelain. Mr. Lefton didn't manufacture his wares, he was an importer of Japanese porcelain but had very high quality standards for his manufacturers and that's why his items are still collected and highly regarded today.  His reputation earned him the name of The China King.  In the mid 1970's he started importing items from other countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia and China.  George Lefton died in 1996 and the company was sold in 2001 but the mark "Lefton" is still being used.  Lefton marks include: stamps, labels, or numbers, unfortunately when it is a paper (foil) label, they are almost always missing by the time we find them.  Lefton was sold to OMT Enterprises of Gardena, California, in 2005 and is now a division of that company.
