An etched rose, arched cuts, crisscross facets — and a lid that is, as described in the original listing, a work of art all on its own.
American Cut operated in Hungary from 1971 to 1999, producing high-quality cut and etched glassware that should not be confused with antique American Brilliant Cut Glass from the 19th century — it's a different tradition, different era, and its own considerable achievement. The Vega pattern is ornate without being excessive: the rose etching is delicate, the arched and crisscross cuts are precise, and the weight of the unleaded blown glass in hand is satisfying. Note: there is a small chip on the inside rim of the sugar lid, and a small area on the lid finial that isn't fully smooth — both shown in photos and noted honestly.
A beautiful set for a formal table or a collected glass display. Priced to reflect the condition — the cut work and etching are fully intact and striking. A thoughtful gift for the glass collector or the person who loves European craft with a specific, traceable history.
