- Details: Remembering the the glamour days of a Mississippi Gulf Coast, this swizzle stick from the Broadwater Beach Hotel will take you right back. It's slick black shiny finish with the Horseshoe and Horse Racing figure is a great addition to your collection. The Broadwater Beach Hotel had a daily bar promotion called, the Daily Double, with a different drink each time. This was all a marketing ploy to attract more gamblers and tourists to the hotel, and horse racing gambling was big in the area. The hotel itself was built in 1939 and was known for its Art Deco style, with the first owner being a well-known gambler. Swizzle sticks make a wonderful addition to use in your bar, or display en masse as decor, and this one has a great story to go with it. The horse racing theme plays well for Spring and Summer cocktails, the peak of horse racing season. Great gift for a swizzle stick collector or a Biloxi resident.

The Broadwater Beach Hotel was built and owned by Pete Martin Sr., in 1938. He was a well known gambler and rum runner. The hotel was known for its futuristic Art Deco style, with a half circular driveway and signature concrete canopy and lots of palm trees. Glamorous as it was for its day, it was a modest hotel until the second owner, Mrs Joe W. Brown, who's husband had purchased the property in 1958, but passed away, took over the business. She transformed the hotel into a premier beach hotel and resort, with all new Mid Century Modern interiors and designs plus a newly added marina. In 1969 the hotel suffered damage from hurricane Camille, but was repaired and continued. Mrs. Joe Brown's ownership of the Broadwater Beach Hotel ended in 1992 when it was acquired by John E. Connelly and President Casino Corporation, they turned it into a casino and renamed it the President Casino Broadwater Resort.
