Charlotte Steiner (1898-1981) grew up in Vienna and fled Europe with her husband in 1938 as Nazi persecution of Jewish families intensified, arriving in New York that October. She began writing and illustrating children's books almost immediately, publishing more than seventy titles between 1939 and 1972 — gentle, insightful stories built around the everyday emotions of very young children.
