A baby in a red snowsuit, face full of wonder, playing in the snow. Katharine Wireman painted childhood as if she never wanted to leave it.
This is an original 1926 salesman sample calendar — the kind that traveled in a rep's case from business to business, showing clients what their promotional calendar could look like. The lithograph is signed by Wireman in the lower right; below it, under a flip-tab, is the December 1926 calendar sample (salesman samples rarely included all twelve months). Wireman studied at the Drexel Institute and spent fifty years illustrating covers for the Saturday Evening Post, Ladies' Home Journal, and Good Housekeeping. Her originals are now in collections. This one is nearly a century old and in wonderful condition — the print bright and clean, with only honest age-related tanning. The cardboard has some wear: a missing top right corner and a bent left corner.
A charming gift for illustration collectors, calendar ephemera enthusiasts, or anyone who loves the warm, sentimental art of early 20th-century American printmaking.
