The "M in a wreath" backstamp places this set precisely: used by the Morimura Company of Japan between 1911 and 1921, the mark that preceded Noritake. In those ten years, Morimura produced some of the finest hand-painted porcelain exported to the American market, and this seven-piece cake serving set is an exceptional example.

One handled cake plate and six matching dessert plates, each individually hand-painted with yellow lotus flowers and green leaves, edged in gold. Every rim carries an exquisite beaded gold border; the center of each piece has a gold moriage flower. The porcelain is translucent — fine enough to hold up to the light. No cracks, chips, or visible scratches on any of the seven pieces; the gold beading is intact throughout.

A stunning gift for a serious collector of Nippon or Noritake antiques, or an heirloom-quality acquisition for anyone who entertains with intention.
