Madeline is a book series, the story of the classic Parisian, red headed girl named, Madeline. Written by author and illustrator, Ludwig Bemelmans, originally published in 1939 and loved even more today. The series follows the daily adventures of Madeline, a seven-year-old girl attending an old, vine-covered boarding school, in Paris. There are eleven other girls, all under the care of their teacher and caretaker, a nun named Miss Clavel. All the books feature charming watercolor illustrations of famous Parisian landmarks, with themes of courage, order, and adventure. The copyright to Ludwig Bemelmans' Madeline stories is owned by his daughter, Barbara Bemelmans, who has been in sole charge since her mother's death in 2004. The rights to the animated series were owned by WildBrain as of 2019, but the underlying literary and visual property rights remain with the Bemelmans family.
