There is wonderful history behind this beautiful bowl — genuine hotel ware from the International Silver Company, made for the Orrington Hotel in Evanston, Illinois.

  • Maker: International Silver Company
  • Materials: Silverplate, silver soldered construction
  • Dimensions: 9.75" long, 7.5" wide (at widest point), 2.0" tall
  • Origin: USA
  • Era: Antique, 1923
  • Condition: Very good antique condition. Surface scratches consistent with age and use; no dents or signs of misuse. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

A deep bowl with high sides that amply accommodates side dishes at the table, or displays beautifully on its own as part of a hotel ware collection.

The bottom carries several etched marks: "Orrington, International Silver Co, Silver Soldered, 05012 01, IN, 3399-11," along with a small number 23 within a box — a mark ISC commonly used to engrave the year of manufacture, which lines up with 1923, the same year the hotel opened. "Silver soldered" means the seams were soldered rather than simply plated, making this piece notably stronger and more durable than standard silverplate. The Orrington Hotel (now owned by Hilton) was built in September 1923 and named for Orrington Lunt, a well-known philanthropist and co-founder of Northwestern University. It is listed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a member of Historic Hotels of America.
