Some mugs hold beer. This one holds memories.
Chief Charley's was a Florida institution — a family-style restaurant founded in 1965 by Charles Haag, beloved for its salad bar, good food, reasonable prices, and lively atmosphere. For over 25 years it was a gathering place for Florida families, and when it closed in bankruptcy in 1989, it left a hole that regulars never quite forgot. Charles Haag passed away in February 2003 at the age of 89.
This ceramic beer stein is a souvenir from those years — simple and unpretentious, with a hand-drawn illustration of a Native American chief's head in red and the name "Chief Charley's." Made in the USA in the 1970s. The kind of piece that means nothing to a stranger and everything to someone who was there.
A note on condition: there is a manufacturing flaw on the handle — it looks like a chip but is glazed over, meaning it happened before the glazing process. Otherwise in very good vintage condition.
Perfect for the long-time Florida resident, the restaurant memorabilia collector, or anyone who grew up going to Chief Charley's with their family.
