Spangle the Bear was introduced April 24, 1999, with a birth date of June 14th — Flag Day, naturally.
TY was founded by Ty Warner in Oak Brook, Illinois in 1986. Beanie Babies were first released in 1993 and by the late 1990s had become one of the greatest toy crazes in American history. TY was also the world's first Internet sensation, leveraging their website to connect with collectors as early as 1995. McDonald's joined the fun in 1996, releasing several Happy Meal Beanie Baby collections — and these International Bears remain among the most beloved.
