- Details: Extremely Rare Find! This large, vintage Motel 6 ashtray is quite unusual, it has an octagon shape and has 6 divots to hold cigarettes, not many available like this one! It has the original logo from 1962 (later updated in 1987), in wonderful condition. Started in 1962 as an alternative to higher fees hotel, the Motel 6 charged only $6 per night. The now iconic tagline: "we'll leave the light on for ya'." was ad-libbed by Tom Bodet (a radio personality and voice actor), who has been the chain's spokesperson ever since. It was based on something his mom would always say to him. This is a wonderful piece of hotel and tourism industry memorabilia and history and a great collector's item.
