  • Pattern:  Imperial 400 Motel. Advertising Collectible, Souvenir Glass Ashtray, San Diego, CA, Rare Thrifty Scotsman Logo
  • Made in USA
  • Vintage: 1959 - 1962
  • Details:  Extremely Rare Find!  This vintage Advertising Collectible, Imperial 400 Motel ashtray has the Thrifty Scotsman Logo, very hard to find.  Started in 1959 by Bernard Whitney in Los Angeles, California, the San Diego motel was one of the initial 4 built.  Unfortunately Bernard expanded too quickly and by 1965 they had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.   Known for their trademark butterfly roofs, many of those wonderful old motels are still found, unchanged, under a different name, in cities like: San Diego, CA, Winslow, AZ, Willcox, AZ, Modesto, CA, Rockford, MO and many others.  Based on the phone number shown on this ashtray (Two letters for the exchange name plus five digits 1931-1962), we believe it was made between 1959 and 1962.  This is a wonderful piece of hotel and tourism industry memorabilia and history and a great collector's item.
